It’s finally here! The Simple Shaped Cowl – DK – Knitting Pattern

This pattern has been in the works for quite a while. I have started the shaped cowl journey with Double Knit yarn and actually published the fingering weight version of the pattern first! I have made my first cowl in Double Knit yarn in 2020 and immediately deicided that it need some improvement to fit better. And that is how the Simple Shaped Cowl was born! I added shaping to the knitted cowls and LOVED it so much that I have now knitted 5 of them in total! Oh no wait – I knit 6 of them if you count the cotton version I made with drawstrings…

What makes this cowl so special?

Well the shaping and the length, of course! This cowl is designed to be smaller at the top and wider at the bottom hem so that it lays nicely around the neck for ultimate warmth. It is long enough to be pulled up over the head to act as a hat and cowl – all in one – keeping your ears warm AND your neck! I wear mine all the time, especially when walking the dog and love the fact that I can just pull it up when it is cold and windy to cover my ears and I do not need to wear a hat!

A new pattern – Apiarist Dishcloth – a tunisian crochet pattern.

My newest pattern came out on Friday the 14th of July – and it is my first Tunisian crochet pattern.

The dishcloth only uses tunisian simple stitches and tunisian purl stitches to make the texture pattern. The border around the dishcloth is just normal conventional crochet – just to finish it off. On the YouTube Channel you will find three tutorials that can assist you with the techniques used in this pattern:

  1. How to Tunisian Crochet A Foundation Row
  2. Tunisian Simple Stitch – Tunisian Crochet Tutorial
  3. Tunisian Purl Stitch – Tunisian Crochet Tutorial

I prefer to make a small project like a dishcloth to learn a new skill or new techniques as you get a finished product much quicker than trying to make a long scarf. And if you feel you need a little more practice – you can make multiple dishcloths! It is up to you!

The pattern is available for purchase in my online shop: Here

You can also buy it directly from my Ravelry Store or in my Etsy Shop.

Enjoy!

How to start knitting – Tutorial series for beginners

Where to begin?

So you want to knit but dont know where to start? The most important thing to keep in mind is to start small. It is just human to want to start knitting and make this gorgeous scarf or shawl that you saw on Pinterest, but lets be honest – you need to walk before you run and to learn to walk you first have to crawl… so always start small.

Start with a smaller project in mind

One of the best things about starting with a smaller project in mind is that you will have a finished object so much quicker! And what better to motivate you to get better at this newly learned skill, than a finished project?

Free Tunisian Crochet Honeycomb Stitch Scrappy Blanket Pattern!

I am so excited to share this tunisian crochet pattern with you! It is for the Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch worked with the join as you go method to make a beautiful blanket with your scrappy yarns and guess what? It is absolutely free on my YouTube channel! Click on the image to go to the YouTube Channel for the tutorial:

I was looking for a honeycomb stitch blanket pattern but I wanted to make it in blocks so that I can have a method of measuring my scraps to make a scrappy blanket. I made a Tunisian Crochet blanket before which was a Tunisian-a-long a few years ago. The blanket was designed to have a patchwork look but was worked with a few colours at a time and I wanted something simpler.

I love the honeycomb stitch because it lays flat whereas the Tunisian simple stitch usually have curly sides like stocking stitch in knitting. So I decided to make up my own method and after talking about the blanket on the Scrappy Sunday Chat – with Leanie of Independence Crochet (Video on the YouTube Channel) I decided to film a tutorial for this method and share it with all of you!

What can you expect from this tutorial?

In this tutorial I give you tips and tricks on how to substitute any scrappy yarns that you have to make these blocks, you don’t even have to make a blanket – you can make a scarf or a cushion cover – whatever you can use the blocks for.

I show how weave in my ends and even give a bonus tip on how to work away one of the ends while picking up stitches for the next block! Less ends to weave in – who doesn’t love that!

The tutorial for this tunisian crochet honeycomb stitch join as you go scrappy blanket is available in my YouTube channel and you are welcome to go there and check it out! Have I mentioned that it is free?

I added chapters to the tutorial as well so that you can easily skip to the part of the tutorial that you need to look at next. Please share your projects on social media and tag me, I would love to see them.

I hope that you enjoy this amazing tutorial and make many many scrappy tunisian crochet blankets!

Until next time – happy crafting!
